This project was to be a model template for our nationwide vision; to collaborate with and assist local communities set up and run their own childcare facilities. Langbinsi is located in the north-eastern part of Ghana (about 180km from Tamale).
The long term goal this project was to encompase all the elements of TACCO’s commitment to community development through child and youth development. Key activities were to include:
- Youth Sports (Basketball and Football)
- Youth Farm
- HIV/Aids Awareness Campaign
Over the period between October 2007 and March 2008, our volunteers, Lida Kraak (Netherlands) and Marie Duthilleul, designed and constructed an open-air basketball field and a complete school block. This project was kindly sponsored by HappyLife, a Dutch, who fundered the new school block.
For both construction projects, all manual labour was organised and provided by the community itself – photo album, which created a sense of ownership of the project.
In 2010, the school building and operational responsibility was transferred to association for the local community.
